I work to document life, humanity, and culture through photography. A lot of my work centers around documenting social issues and the culture of underrepresented populations. I work to tell the stories of these communities in the most truthful way possible. Hopefully this allows the viewers of my work to make a connection with the subject of my work in a deep and meaningful way.
I remember documenting the tornado devastated area of Rowlett, TX the day after Christmas last year. An image of a man standing in the middle of what use to be his house was seen by thousands of individuals. This image eventually led to many people locally and around the nation contacting me about ways to make donations, and even a group of friends I had collected donations and donated dozens of items within 24hours of the image being released.
I often hope my work helps to propel people to either act to make our world better. Or simply by viewing my work it allows us as citizens of this world to recognize another person’s humanity, ultimately allowing us to build bridges through photography.

Elroy Johnson IV “EJ” is an educator and photojournalist. His name is most known for his viral work surrounding the Pool Party Incident in McKinney, TX. Elroy is passionate about telling stories and documenting history in the making. Elroy’s work centers around a lot of social activism, cultural events, and street photography. His ultimate passion is to tell stories of humanity.
